Did the Liechtensteiners make the rise?

Match: Thun – Vaduz
Competition: Super League Relegation

The last competitive game of the 2019/20 season in Swiss football will kick off on Monday evening. In the Barrage – as the Swiss call it – the last ticket for the Super League 2020/21 will be awarded. After the first leg last Friday, the underdog from the Principality of Liechtenstein has clear advantages and goes into the second leg with a 2-0 lead. FC Thun is challenged against Vaduz to prevent the threatened relegation.

Hope can give the favorite from the Bernese Oberland the look at last year’s relegation when Xamax Neuchatel still cheered the relegation despite a 4-0 defeat in the first leg (!). Another advantage is a rule change – because the away goals rule no longer applies. With a 3-1 win, Vaduz would not have fixed relegation, but an extension would follow.

Thun – Statistics & current form

The possible relegation was a permanent issue for the team from the Bernese Oberland this season. For a long time, there was even a threat of direct relegation, so the Barrage participation must be viewed as a minor success, although the direct relegation on the last game day was gambled away.

First-round flop – second round top

In the first half of the season, Marc Schneider’s team presented itself underground several times and was continuously relegated from matchday seven. Only at the turn of the year did the form curve point upwards and thanks to constant performance the imminent direct relegation could quickly be ticked off.

Before the last matchday, Thun even had relegation in its own hands and with a series of six games without defeat, the self-confidence was great. In the 3: 3 draw against FC Zurich, the team showed great morale and equalized a 0: 3 deficit in the final quarter of an hour, but the Sion win in the hate derby against Servette was ninth in the Super League table.

Perseverance slogans at Thun

The mortgage from last Friday’s first leg cannot be denied, but staying in the league will by no means be impossible. Without the away goal rule, the starting situation is much more relaxed, otherwise, Vaduz could have made a preliminary decision with a goal.

As against Zurich, Thun was not “ready” at the beginning – as coach Schneider himself admitted in an interview – and was surprised by the bold FCV style of play. However, Thun has proven several times this season that it can cope with setbacks. In this respect, the prediction for a win for the home side between Thun and Vaduz seems extremely promising. Vaduz will certainly try to keep the zero for a long time and reduce their offensive efforts significantly compared to Friday’s game.

Probable formation of Thun:
Faivre –  Hefti, Havenaar, Stillhart, Glarner – Hasler, Fatkic, Tosetti – Bertone – Munsy, Bande

Vaduz – Statistics & current form

After three years of abstinence, Vaduz could successfully return to the Super League, although the team from Liechtenstein has never completed a barrage. After the first leg last Friday, the door was pushed wide open, but nobody in the camp of the Frick protégés wants to speak of a preliminary decision.

Despite budget cuts, the Super League is within reach

A return to the Swiss upper house of football would probably not particularly please many fans in Switzerland, because the Liechtensteiners are more or less tolerated, but enjoy only limited sympathy with the competition.

The rise would be a sensation from two perspectives because Vaduz had to cut its budget drastically in recent years. The rise was therefore not an issue in the Liechtenstein camp and after a catastrophic start to the season, there was a risk of relegation rather than promotion.

For the first time in 14 games, Vaduz did not concede

Before the first leg, the bookmakers offered balanced betting odds, but it was surprising that the win succeeded without conceding a goal. Previously, the Frick-Elf did not concede on February 16, before 14 games followed in which the defense conceded at least one goal. If on Monday between Thun and Vaduz the tip on both team’s goals is correct, odds of around 1.60 attract.

Vaduz had to change the goalkeeper position after 28 minutes. Justin Ospelt sustained a head injury and thus Liechtenstein’s national goalie Benjamin Büchel returned to the box after surviving an injury (missed nine games) and advanced to the match-winner with a strong game. Especially in the final phase, he rescued several times in Extremis and radiated security with high balls.

Probable formation of Vaduz:
Büchel – Simani, Schmid, Rahimi – Schwizer, Lüchinger, Wieser, Dorn – Cicek – Coulibaly, Sutter

Tuna vs Vaduz Direct comparison

In 16 games, the team from the Principality of Liechtenstein could not celebrate a single victory against the team from the Bernese Oberland. This “winless series” came to an end last Friday, thanks to a strong performance by the Frick protected, the first win against FC Thun was successful. With the 2-0 in the back, the team from the “Ländle” pushed the door wide open towards the Super League.

Thun vs Vaduz Soccer Betting Tips

Vaduz coach Mario Frick (Liechtenstein’s record player) pressed the brakes on euphoria after the success but admitted that he would rather be 2-0 up at halftime than be behind. The first half of the relegation has been completed and the advantages are clearly with the underdog.

The home side from the Bernese Oberland has to show a reaction on their artificial turf. A quality that the Schneider-Elf has and accordingly interesting appears in the return leg between Thun and Vaduz, the prediction towards the home side.

Due to the result in the first leg, Thun has to win by two goals difference so that at least the overtime is achieved. The fact that Vaduz’s away goal does not affect is positive, so Thun can take more risks.

At first glance, a 2-0 result is a pleasant result, but it is undoubtedly deceptive. Vaduz can’t just concentrate on the defensive, even if it should be 0-0 for a long time, Thun can get a second breath with a late goal and a heated final phase would be guaranteed.
