The Football Association intends to remind Joey Barton ‘of his responsibilities’ but will not be taking any action against him.

The Newcastle midfielder has once again fallen under the microscope following the Magpies’ victory over Liverpool on Saturday.

He is alleged to have made an offensive gesture towards Reds striker Fernando Torres during the 3-1 win at St James’ Park.

The FA has carried out an investigation into the incident and has decided that no punishment is required.

It will, however, be writing to Barton to warn him about his future conduct.

An FA spokesman said: “We will be writing to him to remind him of his responsibilities.”

Barton has already been in trouble with the authorities this season, with a petulant punch on Blackburn’s Morten Gamst Pedersen earning him a three-match ban.
