Who will be Super Lig champions 2020/21? Soccer Betting Tips and Odds

Will Fenerbahce end the long dry spell?

Is the reign of the three great traditional clubs from Istanbul over? This question is quite justified after last season in the Süper Lig. For the first time since the 2009/10 season, when Bursaspor surprisingly won the championship in the Süper Lig, Basaksehir, a new team, sat on the Süper Lig throne.

The retort club from Istanbul had already been called the fourth top club from the metropolis in the previous years. That this assessment is daring becomes clear after the start of the 2020/21 season in the Süper Lig at the latest. After four match days, the previous year’s champions are last in the table. A title defence seems to be off the table.

As the Süper Lig Masters 2020/21 betting odds of the best bookmakers show, the big traditional clubs from Istanbul are favoured this season.

Info about spectators & dates of the Süper Lig

The new season kicked off in the Turkish House of Lords on September 11, 2020. The Turkish Football Association announced May 16, 2021, as the expected end of the 2020/21 season. As in many other European leagues, the season takes place under special circumstances. So there was no relegation in the last season, which is why the league was increased.

The most important information about the 2020/21 Süper Lig season

  • Season start: September 11, 2020
  • Season end: May 16, 2021
  • First-round end: January 24, 2021
  • Start of the second half of the season: January 29, 2021

Each week a team will get a “Bye” week, ie a free week. At the start of the season, the games in the 2020/21 Süper Lig season took place in front of empty ranks. As can be seen in the latest statement from the Turkish Football Association, spectators should gradually be allowed back in the stadiums. From October 17, 2020, the Süper Lig clubs will be able to play with spectators again with a stadium load of 50%.

Süper Lig Champions 2020/21 – favourites & betting odds

After the surprise champions of the previous season, another exciting season can be expected, especially since none of the big favourites started the new season really well. Basaksehir, of all people, who wore the red lantern after four days of play, shot the bird.

  • Fenerbahce
  • Placement last season – 7
  • Championship title – 19
  • Last championship – Süper Lig season 2013/14

Ali Koc missed the big championship goal of the last season in his debut season as the new club president of Fenerbahce. All the greater is the pressure in the second season as Fener President. As in 2019/20, there was a major upheaval for canaries in the run-up to the current season.

Erol Bulut as a glimmer of hope?

In the summer, Erol Bulut was introduced as Fenerbahce’s new coach. Born in Bad-Schwalbach, he was previously active as a player for the canaries and in the past has always flirted with a return to his old love. After coaching positions at Yeni Malatyaspor and Alanyaspor, where Bulut knew how to convince, a real maturity test as a coach is now pending.

The 45-year-old head coach took over a real heap of rubble. A major change in the cadre was therefore inevitable. A total of 16 new players joined in the last transfer period. However, numerous problem children had to leave the team. As the canaries’ start of the season so far shows, the squad can be seen this season.

Will the canaries buckle again over the course of the season?

In the first four games of the 2020/21 season, Fenerbahce’s defence made a good impression so far. On the offensive, there is currently still some room for improvement, which is mainly due to the short time to get used to the numerous newcomers. Since the canaries are not represented internationally, the double burden is avoided as far as possible during this season. The cup is known to be of secondary importance in Turkey.

In the last season, Fenerbahce buckled in the course of the first half of the season and thus lost their good starting position after a confident start to the season. If a déjà vu is avoided this season, the canaries can definitely be called favourites in the title race.

  • Galatasaray Istanbul
  • Placement last season – 6
  • Championship title – 22
  • Last championship – Süper Lig season 2018/19

Galatasaray

After two championships in a row, the last season result for the Turkish record champions was very disappointing. The lions from Istanbul not only missed winning the title, but they also missed a place in the Champions League. As a consolation, there was at least the right to start for the Europa League qualification.

Will the 23rd championship title beckon?

Internationally, however, the lions are no longer represented this season. In the play-offs, Galatasaray lost in the away game with the Rangers and had to give up the sails early. The entire focus is therefore placed on the league competition, where Galatasaray is aiming for the 23rd championship title in the club’s history.

So far there has been a mixed start to the season for the Lions – in terms of performance, mind you. It, therefore, remains to be seen whether Galatasaray will find himself in the first half of the season or will be absent from a title race in the Süper Lig for the second time in a row. If “Imperator” Fatih Terim has their way, Galatasaray can also be expected this season.

Transfer activities remained manageable

In the summer there was no major reinforcement at the Turkish record champions. Surprisingly, because with the big construction sites in the Löwen squad it will be difficult to tackle the 2020/21 season with the current squad width. Although those problems were already noticeable in the first games of the current season, Galatasaray is still seen in the Süper Lig as the champions favourite 2020/21.

It is quite a risky assessment because there will be no reinforcements in the Lions squad until the winter break. Anyone who dares a tip on the lions will be rewarded with three times the stake if they are successful.

  • Besiktas Istanbul
  • Placement last season – 3.
  • Championship title – 15
  • Last championship – Süper Lig season 2016/17

Besiktas

Besiktas is more of an outsider in the title race compared to the two city rivals. This is not only due to the weak start to the season but also to the attitude of the current BJK coach Sergen Yalcin. The super left foot, as Yalcin was still called when playing the game, was not really confident about this year’s title race.

(No) Is a game concept available?

Most recently, Sergen Yalcin experimented a lot and dared to make some changes in the starting XI. A clear game concept is still not discernible. When and whether the former offensive player of the Black Eagles can even impose his game philosophy on the team remains to be seen in the next few weeks.

In the first four games of the season, there was only one surprising away coup against last year’s runner-up Trabzonspor. As the last performances of the Black Eagles show, that result should not be overrated. After all, there have been seven goals conceded in the first four games of the season.

Defensive way too vulnerable

As in his coaching stations before, BJK coach Sergen Yalcin also neglects defensive work with the Black Eagles and is increasingly relying on the offensive game. If you consider how vulnerable the black and whites from Istanbul were recent, this tactic does not seem to be particularly promising.

In the summer Besiktas had made some investments in the transfer market. How the newcomers will be integrated into the roster and whether this will initiate a trend reversal cannot yet be foreseen. For a tip on Besiktas as Süper Lig Champion 2020/21, betting odds are currently at 6.00.

Underdogs in the title race of the Süper Lig 2020/21

Although Basaksehir and Trabzonspor were the two best teams – measured by table placement – last season, last year’s champions and last year’s runners-up are only among the underdogs in this year’s title race. At the Black Sea Club from Trabzon, this assessment can be justified with the great change in the roster in summer.

After all, numerous top performers left the team. Basaksehir, on the other hand, got off to a catastrophic start to the season despite a promising squad. If the current form of the orange-blue continues, a memorandum will follow in the group stage of the premier class at the latest.

Süper Lig Champion 2020/21 Soccer Betting Tips

Fenerbahce undoubtedly has the highest squad width in the Süper Lig this season. The canaries have invested heavily in the most recent transfer window and are prepared for the 2020/21 season. Should Erol Bulut successfully integrate all the newcomers into the team, it will probably only be a matter of time before Fenerbahce moves to the top of the table.

Galatasaray is arguably the only serious title competitor for the canaries this season. The arch-rival of Fenerbahce did not have the best start to the season but should find each other again during the season and participate in the title race. The 23rd championship will be difficult for the Turkish record champions with the current squad.
