Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has rubbished reports he would be willing to return to the Premier League – with Manchester City.

City manager Roberto Mancini has targeted the former Manchester United man in an astonishing £90million swoop, according to newspaper speculation on Sunday.

It is reported the mega-rich Eastlands club would be willing to pay a £50million transfer fee for the 23-year-old Spain international and offer him an £8million-a-year pay packet over five seasons.

Mancini is said to have spoken to City midfielder Yaya Toure, who made the same move from Camp Nou in the summer, in a bid to persuade Pique to return to Manchester.

However, the World Cup winner insists he is happy in Spain, saying: “I have heard the rumour but my head is in Barcelona.

“And it’s not a question of money.”
