Anne Keothavong failed to reach the first WTA Tour final of her career as she was defeated by Roberta Vinci in the last four of the Luxembourg Open.

Vinci needed only one hour and 12 minutes to claim a comfortable 6-4 6-2 victory over the British number two.

Keothavong had made an impressive run to the semi-finals of the tournament but struggled on her serve and could not put up much of a fight against the Italian.

She was broken three times in each set and only managed to win 54 per cent of the points on her first serve and 35 per cent on her second.

Keothavong did manage to fashion three breaks of her own but could not prevent Vinci from easing to a comfortable win.

Germany’s Julia Goerges awaits Vinci in the final after she recorded a 6-4 3-6 6-1 win over compatriot Angelique Kerber in the other semi-final.
