Blackpool manager Ian Holloway remains unsure whether he can persuade goalkeeper Matthew Gilks to sign a new contract.

Gilks has seen his career revitalised during Holloway’s time at Bloomfield Road and he played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

He has caught the eye of many observers in the top flight and has also earned a call-up to the Scotland squad.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Holloway is aware that he may not be able to hang on to the former Rochdale keeper.

Holloway would bear no grudges if Gilks decides to secure a more lucrative deal elsewhere, but will not give up on the prospects of retaining his services.
    Magnificent

“How many fans would believe we are in the Premier League and he is in goal for us playing out of his skin?” said Holloway. “All sorts of people are rumoured to want him.

“I was sick and fed up with the stick he got in his first game and I have worked my socks off to help him. He has more than done that.

“He is a magnificent man and I am delighted how well he is playing.

“If I can keep him I would love to. If I can’t, he goes with my blessing. Unfortunately he is out of contract and what is his agent telling him, who knows?

“What I do know is I have Paul Rachubka training now, Richard Kingson and young Mark Halstead.

“If Matt goes one of them might have to play. It won’t be that much of a hardship, but Matt owes me nothing.”
