Fabio Capello believes Harry Redknapp and Sam Allardyce are the frontrunners to succeed him as England boss.

The Italian is set to leave his post with the Three Lions in 2012, once England’s involvement at the European Championships, should they qualify, comes to an end.

With a date already set for his departure, attention has turned to possible replacements.

Tottenham manager Redknapp is widely regarded as the leading candidate, with his success at White Hart Lane underlining his credentials.

He has taken Spurs from the foot of the Premier League and into the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League during his time in charge of the capital giants, proving he has what it takes to work at the very highest level.

Blackburn chief Allardyce is another name often touted, as he has considerable Premier League experience under his belt.

Both men are believed to be in the Football Association’s thoughts as they are keen for the next national coach to be English.

Capello believes either would be a suitable fit for England, with the pair currently setting the benchmark for home-grown coaches.

He said: “In this moment Allardyce and Redknapp are doing very well because they have different players, they have good style and get results with them.

“It is important for a coach to understand which type of players they manage and find the best style.”
