Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has announced he is set to relaunch his career at light-heavyweight.

The 30-year-old from Swansea has lost three of his past six outings, including to Alexander Frenkel for the EBU title last time out.

However Maccarinelli, who lost his world title in two rounds to David Haye back in 2008, now wants to campaign at 175lbs.

“Although I have made a few mistakes in recent years, I still want to be a fighter,” said Maccarinelli.

“We’ve had some really good Welsh fighters on the scene in the last couple of years but between Joe’s Calzaghe retirement and myself it has slowed down a little.

“But now there are these young guys coming through and I am coming back to fight in the light-heavyweight division because my desire is still strong.”

Maccarinelli’s decision to drop to light-heavyweight could now put his on a collision course with fellow Welshman Nathan Cleverly, who is set challenge for the WBO title.
