Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is full of confidence ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s derby at Arsenal.

Spurs have not won at the home of their arch-rivals for more than 17 years but Redknapp does not see his side as certain losers.

On the contrary, he believes his side are strong and can approach the game full of confidence.

The Spurs boss said: “We’re stronger now perhaps than what we were in lots of those years.

“It’s a London derby, great atmosphere, great stadium, fantastic pitch, the ball is round just the same.

“First year I came two years ago, we had that 4-4 draw – which was an amazing game – so we can go there tomorrow full of confidence.”

Tottenham finished just five points behind third-placed Arsenal last season to earn a UEFA Champions League berth.

Redknapp’s side are already seven points adrift of the second-placed Gunners in this term but the Spurs boss remains undaunted.
    Close

He added: “It was close last year – there was very little between the two teams – and I think this year’s exactly the same.

“Arsenal play fantastic football – let’s be honest – and I think we do as well.

“So it’s got the makings of a great game tomorrow.”

With just nine points separating the top seven, Redknapp reckons victory could ignite a title push from his seventh-placed side.

“You’ve to win these games if you’re going to look to win a championship,” he said ahead of a tough run of fixtures.

“I think the championship is wide open this year.

    “It’s never been so open.

“I think anyone who can put a run together out of the top group has got a real chance this season because no-one’s walking away with it; everybody’s getting beaten in games you don’t expect them to get beaten in or struggling to win games.”
