Wayne Rooney

Keane – United will survive

Roy Keane is convinced his former employers Manchester United will cope without Wayne Rooney.

The Red Devils look set to part with their prized asset after it emerged that the England international is actively seeking a move elsewhere.

Rooney has openly questioned the ambition of the club and believes the time is right for him to take on a new challenge.

Ipswich boss Keane, who enjoyed a glittering spell at Old Trafford during his playing days, believes the striker is well within his rights to look for a move.

He acknowledges that his departure would be a blow for United, but feels those already predicting the demise of the Red Devils should he leave are wide of the mark.

“Players have opinions and if they want to leave then good luck to them,” said Keane.

“Man Utd will more than survive.”
Amazing club

It has been suggested that United, who continue to operate under crippling debts, are no longer able to attract the top talents in the game.

Keane, though, has been quick to refute that claim, insisting that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side remain a massive draw to any player with ambitions of playing at the pinnacle of their profession.

He said: “If any player ever asked me, and one or two have, if they had a chance of signing for Man Utd, ‘do it, you won’t regret it’.

“I was there for 12-and-a-half years and I loved every minute of every day playing for that club, every minute of every day.

“I had chances to leave, many opportunities when my contract was running out, particularly when I came back from my cruciate (ligament injury).

“An amazing football club, brilliant football club.”

Glazers urged to consider sale

The Red Knights group of potential investors believe Wayne Rooney’s sale would lower Manchester United’s valuation below £1billion and should put pressure on the Glazer family to consider a sale.

The group declared, earlier this year, they would be prepared to pay up to £1billion to buy the Premier League giants but the owners were ‘not interested in selling’.

Following manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s remarks that Rooney wants to leave, one Red Knight has told Sky Sports News HD that the group is “happy to watch and let the price come our way” and news of Rooney’s possible departure “simply adds to our belief that the value of Manchester United is less than £1billion.”

The Red Knight added that the value of Manchester United, without Rooney, could be closer to the £790m the Glazer family paid in May 2005.

The group will not make a further bid to buy Manchester United, unless the Glazers are open to bidders, but they believe Rooney’s departure should put pressure on the owners to at least consider any offer to buy the club.

Mancini doubts January bids

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini doubts whether the big-spenders will be making any moves in the transfer market come January.

City have been the biggest spenders in world football in recent times with firstly Mark Hughes and then Mancini bringing in a wealth of world class talent.

The Eastlands outfit are always on the lookout for fresh faces and have been tipped as one of the possible destinations for Wayne Rooney should he leave city rivals Manchester United.

Mancini has denied City have made any contact with the Red Devils over the England international and now Mancini has hinted there will be no signings in the New Year.
Continuity

“There are a lot of players in the world, and what is important for us is to think of our players and our season,” said Mancini.

“In the summer if there is a player who could change something for us, we could talk about this. Not January, I don’t think.

“Manchester City are developing every month, every year. But every day we hear we are buying a new player and that is not good.

“It is correct that the owners have big ambitions, but everyone who works here has big ambitions for the future.

“At this moment we must think about Poznan and the next league game against Arsenal.”
