Fergie fumes at final prices

Sir Alex Ferguson has criticised the price of tickets for the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley on 28th May.

Uefa announced this week that it would be more expensive than ever to attend the biggest showpiece in European football.

The cheapest tickets on general sale will come to £150 plus a £26 administration fee, while the cheapest category four tickets available through the clubs will be £80.

Ferguson, whose Manchester United side will hope to land the trophy on English soil, feels for the supporters.

“It’s unbelievable and disappointing,” he said. “It’s a killer and a corporate deal, that.

“Managers and players can’t do anything about it.

“I don’t know what you can do. You have a booking fee also of £26 or whatever it is, so dearie me.”

Fergie out to land his man

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is out to land an unspecified player this summer.

The Old Master has revealed he made a move in the January transfer window that ultimately did not come off.

Whilst not specifying who his target was – or what position they occupy on the field – the United boss is determined to finally land his man in the summer.

Ferguson, who has been linked with signing a new keeper due to Edwin van der Sar’s impending retirement, told United Review: “Billionaire owners have introduced a new world that is turning football on its head.

“For our part, we cannot afford to sit in an ivory tower. We have to face the challenge.

“It is a healthy competition and it goes without saying that we will not shirk it and I don’t think we are doing so.

“Although I let the transfer window shut without signing a new player, that is because we did our homework some time ago and didn’t have to rush into any emergency buying.

“We had an interest in one player, and I thought we had a chance of bringing him in, but the other parties involved weren’t ready and so we have put it away until the summer.”

Rooney set to face Reds

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Wayne Rooney could be fit to start Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with Liverpool.

Rooney missed Tuesday’s win over Stoke after picking up an ankle injury in the win over West Brom on New Year’s Day.

The England international risked further injury when, after limping off at the Hawthorns, he returned to the field of play to see out the game.

Rooney returned to training on Thursday and he is in line to return against bittler rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

“If it had been serious Wayne would not have come back on last week,” said Ferguson.

“Maybe it was not the right thing to do in terms of getting him ready for Tuesday’s game. But he started work yesterday and we just hope that he will be all right for Sunday.”
Keeper decision

Ferguson is also hopeful of having veteran keeper Edwin van der Sar available for the game after a bout of flu ruled him out of the last two games.

Tomasz Kuszczak has started in the absence of the Dutchman and the Pole will continue in goal if Van der Sar misses out again, even though new signing Anders Lindegaard is now available.

“Lindegaard is available as from today,” added Ferguson.

“Tomasz has performed very well in his two games with us, so it is a luxury.

“Anders has done well training-wise but he has not had any experience of the

English game, so that will have a bearing.

“It depends on whether Edwin is fit of course but I would probably pick Tomasz

in this particular game.”
