Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema may be in doubt for Los Blancos’ forthcoming fixtures against Sporting Gijon and Tottenham after suffering a thigh strain in France’s 0-0 friendly stalemate against Croatia.

Marca.com reports the former Lyon man had tests at the Saitas La Moraleja hospital on Wedesday morning, with the injury not considered to be serious.

He is expected to undergo further tests with Madrid to diagnose the full extent of his injury, with suggestions from Spain of a muscular strain which could take aroud 10 days to heal, but this has not been confirmed by the club.

As things stand, he may be forced to miss the clash with Sporting this weekend and the subsequent Champions League first leg against Tottenham on Tuesday.

The Merengues are currently five points behind league leaders Barcelona, and Benzema’s possible absence could prove costly in the race for the title.

However, he could be back in contention against Athletic Bilbao next week. He has scored 10 La Liga, with six in seven games in the Champions League.
