Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is confident his faltering side can upset Milan as the two teams lock horns tonight at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.
The Palermo supremo ignored his side’s woeful recent form to focus on their three successive home victories over the table-toppers.
“In recent years we have beaten Milan many times and can do it again tonight,” Zamparini said.
“It won’t be easy, but if the side finds the right mentality, then this can happen,” he added.
Palermo have slipped to ninth in the Serie A table having lost their last five matches. The architect of Palermo’s impressive victories over Milan, Delio Rossi, is no longer at the helm.
His replacement, Serse Cosmi, has so far failed to turn the side’s fortunes around with the club’s last two defeats coming under his stewardship.
Zamparini was thus keen to deflect attention away from his unsettled tactician.
“The lads must play without the pressure of needing a result. If Palermo play in a relaxed manner, then I think we can absolutely win this.
“I didn’t doubt the fans would stick close to the team and we hope to give them something to celebrate.”
