Adriano Galliani believes Inter’s recent maulings against Milan and Schalke were not induced by Leonardo as he defends the former Rossoneri man from criticism.

The Brazilian coach has come in for a storm of criticism, with reports suggesting he would be demoted as coach and given a director’s role, but Leonardo himself denied such a move could happen.

However, Galliani, who knows him well from their work together at Milanello over the years, claims the recent jolt of poor form is part of the game, and not down to Leonardo’s influence.

“It’s football that is terrible. Leonardo is not going through any difficult moment. Until last Saturday night he was a great coach and a great motivator for what he has done at Inter… in reality it is football that is a terrible sport,” Galliani told the press.

“I am close to him. You cannot cancel 13 years. I am not an Inter fan, but I have affection for him.”

Serie A leaders Milan, currently five points above the Beneamata, are away to Fiorentina in the final game of Round 32 on Sunday evening, while Inter kick off the weekend by hosting Chievo.
