Bayern Munich forward Thomas Mueller hopes to lead his side in a final push for a place in the Champions League.

The Bundesliga giants are just two points behind third-placed Hannover with seven games remaining, and having tumbled out of Europe to Inter in the last 16, Mueller has stressed the need to be back involved next term, with Jupp Heynckes at the helm.

“It was a disappointment to go out this year, but our aim is to get back in it for next year and we have seven important finals ahead of us,” he told Sport Bild.

Mueller is preparing for the arrival of current Leverkusen coach Heynckes who will replace Louis Van Gaal, adding: “Next season we will have a good coach too and I trust the board and management. I think he [Heynckes] will believe in our quality.”
