Ghana football legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ has cast a huge shadow on the current football authorities of the west African country for presiding over a ‘gloomy’ league that has no future.

According to the former football maestro the key element of Ghana football lies at grassroots level and the image of the local league shows clearly that the administration of president Kwesi Nyantakyi has failed.

Abedi, whose three sons – Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Ibrahim Ayew – play for the Black Stars, said it would be out of place to judge Ghana football with the performance of the foreign-based players.

“You judge it by what someone has achieved locally and not what the foreign based players of the Black Stars achieved in the 2010 World Cup,” the all-time leading goal scorer of the Black Stars [33 goals in 73 matches] said to the Africa Watch magazine.

“We look at organization, efficiency and hard work at all levels. All these things in the local terrain have been poor and for me that’s the way I judge, and that’s what I see.

“Just look at the performance of Ghana at the just ended African Nations Championship (CHAN). That gives a clear indication that our football is in shambles and very gloomy in the future. But if Ghanaians are happy with Kwesi Nyantakyi’s performance, so be it.”

The three-time African Best Player confirmed he is not interested in becoming Ghana FA president ever but would use other avenues to help develop the game in the country.

“It is something that has never caught my interest. I am not interested and I will never be interested,” the former national captain stressed.
