Vonk’s contract with Ajax expires at the end of the season and sources at Ikamva have revealed that the former Bafana goalkeeper may hang up his boots then.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Ajax CEO George Comitis says they are yet to meet with Vonk to find out if he still wants to continue playing football.
“We are not sure at the moment. Vonk is 41 years old now and we don’t know whether he will consider playing next season. At this stage we haven’t discussed anything regarding his future.”
Ajax tried to sign goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez in January in what was expected to be a good replacement for Vonk in the event of him retiring.
Comitis also confirmed that they have already received applications from coaches interested in taking over the coaching reigns at Ikamva next season.
