Barcelona defender Eric Abidal will only think about a contract extension once he recovers from last week’s surgery to remove a tumor on his liver, claims his representative David Venditelli.
The agent told COM Radio the full-back’s health was of paramount importance, though the stopper is said to be pleased his club are seeking to support him in the future.
“The only priority we have is the health of Eric,” Venditelli said.
“After this we will see. Barcelona have been incredible in terms of support. Now we are waiting to see the results over his health before we can speak about any extension with Barcelona.
“It’s clear Eric is happy with the club’s proposals and how they have reacted to this and he will be interested in negotiating a new deal. He is recovering well, and we are waiting to see further results as to whether things are ok or not. Abidal is not asking himself when he can return to action.”
The French international’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2012.
