We had a break from Premier League action once again as the FA Cup quarter-finals took centre stage but yet again there were some outstanding performances.
While the 751 other teams who failed to make it this far could only watch on regretfully, eight teams played out this year’s sixth round with the victors earning a trip to Wembley for the semi-finals.
In the battled of the Bs, Bolton beat Birmingham in a five-goal thriller with Chung-Yong Lee nodding in a last minute winner in what has already, rather predictably, been dubbed a ‘classic cup tie’.
Meanwhile, the most anticipated clash of the round saw the Premier League’s top two meet at Old Trafford where Manchester United edged out Arsenal 2-0, a result that ended a horrid week for the Gunners that also saw them crash out of the Champions League, but kept Sir Alex Ferguson’s men on for the treble.
Stoke squeezed past West Ham 2-1 and set up a less-than-mouth-watering semi-final tie with Bolton, while Manchester City were nearly embarrassed by Championship side Reading (the only non-top flight team left) but managed to avoid an upset thanks to Micah Richards’ bullet of a header.
