Home favourite Mark Williams eased into the last 16 of the Welsh Open after a crushing 4-0 victory over Marco Fu.
The double world champion, who won the German Masters two weeks ago, needed little more than an hour to whitewash his opponent.
Fu fell behind after a tight first frame despite making a break of 56 before Williams also added the second by compiling 51 of his own.
In the third, Williams moved three frames ahead with a run of exactly 100 and a second consecutive century break – this time 120 – clinched the victory in exhibition style.
The world number three will face Jamie Cope in the next round and expects a difficult struggle to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Difficult
“It’ll be a very difficult match, he struggled in the first round but you’d expect that because he’s around the (world number) 16 mark,” Williams said.
“He was probably under pressure yesterday but he’s got his points now and I think he’ll come out firing on all cylinders on Thursday.”
In the other early match on Tuesday, Mark Allen set up a clash with Masters champion Ding Junhui after completing a comfortable 4-1 win over Rod Lawler.
The Northern Ireland cueman raced into a 2-0 lead after a break of 84 in the second frame before a run of 59 took him to the brink of victory.
Lawler pulled one back but he was only delaying the inevitable as Allen opened up with a 58 in the fifth frame and his lead was not overturned.
