Uefa open disciplinary against Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets for alleged racism against Real Madrid’s Marcelo

Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets could be in hot water after Uefa confirmed they have opened a disciplinary case against him following the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid in which he is alleged to have racially abused Marcelo.Madrid complained that Busquets had allegedly called the left-back a “mono” (monkey) during the semi-final first-leg on April 27 which ended 2-0 to the Spanish champions.

A statement realeased by Uefa reads:

“Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is alleged to have violated Article 11 bis of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations by directing racist abuse towards a Real Madrid CF player in the Uefa Champions League semi-final first-leg between the clubs on April 27.

“The proceedings have been launched on the basis of evidence provided by Real Madrid (video and statement of club and player). The Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Sunday, May 15 and the decision will be communicated to the club on Monday, May 16.”

Busquets could miss the Champions League final against Manchester United at Wembley if he is found guilty and subsequently suspended.

Inter’s Yuto Nagatomo: We want to win Coppa Italia

Inter full-back Yuto Nagatomo has underlined the importance of winning the Coppa Italia this season.

The Italian giants have already been knocked out of the Champions League and could finally lose their grasp over the Scudetto this weekend as Serie A leaders AC Milan need just a point to win their first championship since 2004.

2010-11 has been a disappointing campaign for Inter but Nagatomo, who was signed by the Milanese side from Cesena on loan in January, believes that they can put a positive spin on their season by winning the Italian Cup.

“Obviously it would be very difficult to win the [Serie A] title but we won’t give up,” said Nagatomo at the launch of Inter’s new Japanese-version website. “Now we want to win the Cup. We want to end the season with an important success and we’re focused on that.”

Inter won the first-leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie against Roma 1-0 in Rome two weeks ago. The return leg at San Siro in Milan is next week.

The Japan international also praised his coach Leonardo, who replaced Rafael Benitez on Christmas Eve and helped restore team spirit in the dressing room.

“He focuses on the details and talks to us [players] a lot,” added Nagatomo. “If I’m not sure of something he explains everything to me, also in Japanese, he’s a great coach.”

Napoli’s Edinson Cavani: I dream of winning Ballon d’Or

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has revealed his dream to win the Ballon d’Or one day.

The Uruguay international forward has been in brilliant form for the Italian club all season and has netted 26 goals in 34 appearances in Serie A with seven strikes in 10 matches in the Europa League.

Cavani has established himself as one of the better forwards in Europe this campaign and has been linked with a host of major European clubs, including Spanish giants Real Madrid; and he now says that he wants to achieve personal glory and make a long-lasting mark on the world of football.

“My dreams are always team successes, but on a personal level I would like to win the Golden Boot or Golden Ball [Ballon d’Or],” Cavani told Radio Marte. “I saw it at Kaka’s house, but I didn’t want to touch it as I’d prefer to wait for my own.”

Napoli are currently third in Serie A, a point behind second-placed Inter with three more rounds of matches left in the championship, and Cavani is looking forward to ending the campaign with a flourish.

“Now we have to try to finish second and become runners-up,” said the 24-year-old. “We’ll draw conclusions at the end of the season, but our objective has always been to finish second or third. We still believe.”

When asked about his hopes of finishing as the top scorer in Serie A this season, the former Palermo striker stated: “First let’s qualify for the Champions League and then, if I can win the scorers’ crown, I will be happy.

“I’ve told [Udinese forward Antonio] Di Natale that he’s already won it in the past so he should leave it to me this time. I’m fighting against Toto who is a great professional.”

Like Cavani, Di Natale has scored 26 goals in the league this season. Inter striker Samuel Eto’o is third on the list with 20 goals.

Bayern Munich will not be pressured by Schalke over Manuel Neuer deal – Christian Nerlinger

Bayern Munich’s director of sport Christian Nerlinger says that they will not be held to ransom over the signing of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from Schalke in the summer.

The German giants have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old highly-rated Neuer, with strong suggestions in the German media that the custodian will end up at the Allianz Arena before the start of next season.

Neuer himself has ruled out a move to a foreign league and has said that he wants to continue to play in the Bundesliga, but has also refused to extend his deal at Schalke beyond 2012.

However, the Royal Blues reportedly want €25 million for the Germany international, a sum that Bayern are refusing to meet. Reports on Wednesday evening suggested that Bayern are willing to pay €19m and add midfielder Luiz Gustavo into the deal, but Nerlinger has now said that they will not be forced into making any rash decision.

“Every player has his price, but Bayern have always been renowned for not letting ourselves be put under any pressure,” he told the Tz newspaper. “A healthy economic attitude is part of our concept, and that is not going to change with the transfer of Manuel Neuer.”

Nerlinger has also hinted that Bayern may not eventually sign Neuer as they have recently extended the contract of their current first choice goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt by a year.

“We have a stable solution, with or without Manuel Neuer,” he said. “We would have no qualms at all about going into the season with Jorg Butt as our number one.”

Manchester United were also linked with Neuer but last week manager Sir Alex Ferguson conceded defeat in their attempt to persuade the player to move to Old Trafford.

Marcello Lippi impressed with Cesare Prandelli’s Italy

Marcello Lippi has said Cesare Prandelli’s new Italy team has similar features to the side which won the World Cup in 2006.

Lippi vacated his Nazionale seat after a failed bid to retain the trophy during last summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

Prandelli was tasked with the job of renewing both players and fortunes – a task he is working toward as Italy lead their Euro 2012 qualifying group C.

The former Juventus and Inter tactician believes the current crop will soon soar to new heights as he gives his approval.

“I like the enthusiasm which is in this national side. I feel like I am seeing the will and enthusiasm of my World Cup winning squad,” he told Radio Toscana.

Lippi is still out of work following the Azzurri departure, but options are being left open.

“I hope to coach abroad, I have had many offers, but nothing concrete. I would prefer a national side over a club,” he concluded.

Spartak Moscow are one of the clubs currently being linked with the 63-year-old.
